Crowthers
Nursery
Ongar Road, Abridge
|
 |
• The proposed site is a renowned garden centre and
nursery business with a residential dwelling and is the principal
source of income for the owners. This would not only decimate
their livelihood but also their privacy and enjoyment of where
they live.
• Not meeting set Government criteria in terms of lack
of access to jobs, services/amenities, shops, schools and
healthcare.
• 15 pitches x 1.7 mobile homes would dominate a settled
existing community.
• The inappropriateness of the site is compounded by
its remoteness, with no public transport; no footpaths, no
proper drainage, no street lighting and is not served by main
sewers.
• The proposed encampment would suffer from noise pollution
from light aircraft and helicopters it being in very close
proximity to the end of Stapleford Abbotts Airfield’s
runway.
• On health & safety grounds the site is on the
busy A113 - a noted accident spot with a 60 MPH national speed
limit in force.
• The site is also in close proximity to gas pipe lines.
• The A113 at this point is prone to flooding and freezing
over.
• Hard standings for pitches would affect ground water
levels and thus increase the flood risk for local residents.
It is a matter of record that neighbouring Hillmans Cottages
was flooded in October 2000 from a surge of excess water from
this higher lying stretch of the Ongar Road and the flood
plains opposite that site water courses drain into (en route
to the river).
• The close proximity of the River Roding presents a
risk to children being attracted to the weir …a local
beauty spot and crossing the busy A113 to reach it which is
exacerbated by the danger of deep water especially during
high tide and when in flood. The area cannot be fenced off
as it is a public footpath.
